Marshall University--Take the Walk
Members of the community will walk a mile barefoot to raise money for those who do not have shoes. Project directors from student government will work with younger youth volunteers.
Fairmont State University/Pierpont Community and Technical College--Promoting Altruism Through Reading
The concept for this project is to promote altruism through a reading experience. College age students will read a developmentally appropriate story to children ages five to seven years of age. The main story line will focus on making or doing something for another as an expression of altruism. Older youth will serve as role models for service and serve as facilitators for the hands-on project construction and delivery. Children ages five to seven will construct an item that will be delivered to the location that was identified with the need.
Marshall University--Project Inspire!
This project will focus on connecting Marshall University student leaders with residents of the neighboring Ohio River Valley Juvenile Correctional Facility. The facility has been desperately seeking a diverse population to provide positive interactions with the inmates. Programs and activities will include but will not be limited to: shared stories with the campus student leaders discussion of their motivations and inspirations, planning for the future--a discussion on the benefits of college, board games, card games, and basketball pick-up games.
