Be Healthy to Be Great

“Be Healthy to Be Great” is a large youth led project that will focus on nutrition and hygiene awareness, community restoration, and healthy relationships. The project will be completed by after school program participants from four different housing communities: Roosevelt, Mt. Airy, Dunedin, and McDonough. “Be Healthy to Be Great” will begin by students researching what makes a healthy community. Afterwards, each site will select a representative who will then meet with a local artist to discuss possible “healthy community” concepts they would like to paint on the East end wall of the Mt. Airy Boys and Girls Club. In March, the artist will sketch the designs, and all students from all sites will then trace the sketches with marker. In early April, all students from all sites will again come together to paint the wall. On April 25th, we will have an unveiling of the wall (open to the public) complete with a health fair and a healthy meal provided by a catering service. Youth from all four sites will be responsible for event set up and take down, food selection and distribution, and explaining the significance of the wall. Through their service, students will beautify the community and educate both themselves and the public on what it takes to be a healthy community.
