Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service
The ICVS plans to bring together leaders from across the state to serve on a committee to plan Global Youth Service Day. Committee members will represent state agencies, nonprofit organizations, communities of promise, school districts, and mentoring programs. Also, youth committee members identified from the State of Iowa Youth Advisory Council will serve on the committee to help with planning and implementation of GYSD. The plan is to focus projects on the environment, youth development, and human needs. For this first year, we will work directly with existing ICVS partners, AmeriCorps State grantees, and communities of promise to implement large projects in at least 10 locations in Iowa. The ICVS also will invite agencies and organizations in other areas of the state to participate, and we will provide support in the forms of project planning tools, public relations/marketing, and volunteer management. Details on the actual projects will be determined at the local level so that their identified community needs can be met.Contact Karen Crosby, Program Office at karen.crosby@iowalifechanging.com / 515.725.3098 Media Contact: Adam Lounsbury adam.lounsbury@iowalifechanging.com 515.725.3099
