Our current goals for GYSD are:1.) Grow community service in youth, grades 7-122.) Grow opportunities for youth to be involved in community service by working with agencies/organizations to think creative about engaging youth volunteers3.) Inform those people who are involved with students (parents, teacher, etc.) regarding opportunities for youth to serve their communityWe have a youth leaders subcommittee (approximately 10 youth) and an adult/agency subcommittee (over 25 interested parties) that are working on the following events surrouding our local GYSD:1) Project creation committee - coming up with projects at local agencies and through local governments that can effectively engage youth while also providing a service learning component2) Closing ceremony committee - working on wrapping up Friday and Saturday's events with sponsorship, a band, a recognition ceremony with President's Service Awards for those who qualify, and a slideshow of pictures from the two days' events (encouraging youth to bring family and friends).

Our timeline for the event is as follows:

July 21, 2009 - Next adult committee meeting
July 31, 2009 - Next youth committee meeting
August - next meetings for both committees
October - Moving forward with GYSD and speaking with agencies individually on project ideas/spreading the word
January - Project Proposals will be open online at www.volunteerdayton.org.

All projects to be completed must be submitted through the website, approved, and include a project leader who will be supervising the project at all times.

Feb 8 - Group and individual registration begins to sign up for service projects
March 8 - sign-ups close
March 26 - projects are assigned to groups, schools, and individual volunteers
